I've been experimenting with soft pastels on canvas but this one ended up a bit of a fail. I painted a canvas with Art Spectrum pastel ground, then used pastel sticks to create a simple landscape scene. Then I poured a varnish over the entire canvas. Results - I was able to brush the varnish without smudging the pastel which was a plus, but the varnish kind of melted the pastel and bought the red of the pastel ground paint to the top and then just made everything super dark. It was worth the experiment but now it's back to the drawing board.
